Radian Sounds Exciting, but Target is Definitely the Focus.
Cisterra has a great reputation for building quality buildings with interesting architecture in Downtown San Diego. We don’t expect anything different with Radian. Cisterra had the original structure that currently occupies the lot labeled as a historic resource. The existing structure was built by Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company, but is currently known as the Farkas building. They plan on restoring the current façade to preserve the structure’s art-deco style. Radian will be a luxury high-rise apartment building. Like many of the competing towers, the plans include a rooftop amenities, such as a pool and spa. Above the target, there are plans for 5 levels of parking and then 16 apartment floors.
While Radian sounds like a really exciting project, what made real headlines was the rumor that Target had signed a lease for the ground level and basement. Since then, Cisterra has announced that Target has signed a 32,000 square foot lease to bring in an urban Target. This store will likely be similar to the North Park, Ocean Beach, and South Park locations. This is really exciting news for Downtown San Diego residents. My wife and I lived downtown for 8 years. During that time, we always said Target was one of the main things Downtown was lacking, so it’s exciting to see that there could be one as early as Summer of 2023!
So how certain is this plan? According to one of the principles of the firm, Cisterra has signed the lease with target, the ground lease, and secured financing. It seems like everything is moving along in the right direction.
