Horton: A Downtown Landmark Re-Imagined by Stockdale
I’ve got some incredible news for everyone who’s been keeping an eye on Downtown San Diego’s real estate landscape! Horton has made an exciting announcement regarding the first wave of retail tenants. If you haven’t heard already, the “Horton” project is the new marvel developed by Stockdale, a name synonymous with visionary real estate projects. This mixed-use development is poised to reshape the core of Downtown San Diego, boasting over 1,000,000 square feet of retail and office space. The office component alone will cover 772,000 square feet, providing a cutting-edge work environment for innovative companies and startups. On the retail side, we’re looking at approximately 300,000 square feet of space that will host a variety of shopping and dining options.
The project is strategically located in the vibrant heart of Downtown San Diego, perfectly positioned to cater to the diverse professional and lifestyle needs of the community. While the target opening date is projected for the summer of 2024, that’s contingent on filling a specified percentage of both retail and, more importantly, office spaces.

Major Retail Tenants Announced
This is the part where I get super excited! The project’s management has just dropped some big news. According to a recent San Diego Union Tribune article, Stockdale—the driving force behind Horton—has announced that they have either signed leases or are deep in negotiations for all of the retail spaces! Yes, you heard that right. Sprouts Farmers Market will be taking over the space previously occupied by Jimbo’s grocery store near 1st and G. As for the other announced tenants, they will be strategically located around Horton Plaza Park and near Broadway Circle.
Some of the marquee names joining Horton include Sprouts for farm-fresh produce, Shake Shack for indulgent burgers, Sweetgreen for health-conscious salads and bowls, Salon Republic for upscale beauty services, and Studio Three Fitness as the new boutique gym to get you into top shape. These announcements have sent a wave of excitement throughout the Downtown community, and I’m thrilled to see how these new tenants will contribute to our already vibrant local scene. The next wave of retail tenant announcements is expected to come next month. As for the office tenants, those details are yet to be released, but given the caliber of retail tenants and Stockdale’s track record, I can only imagine the high-quality companies that will set up shop here. I can’t wait to share more updates with you soon!
